Detoxification Guide

Why Detox?

The body naturally detoxifies every day — through the liver, kidneys, skin, lungs, and lymphatic system. But modern life exposes us to a heavier load than ever before: chemicals, microplastics, heavy metals, processed food, and environmental toxins. A structured detox gives these organs a break, helping the body restore balance, energy, and mental clarity.

Common Toxins

Different toxins require different approaches for safe and effective removal:

  • Heavy Metals – lead, mercury, cadmium, and aluminium accumulate in tissue and brain cells.
  • Chemical Residues – pesticides, household cleaners, and industrial pollutants that strain the liver.
  • Biotoxins – produced by moulds, fungi, and pathogenic bacteria in the gut.
  • Plastics & VOCs – common in synthetic materials, disrupt hormones and metabolism.
  • Metabolic Waste – lactic acid and oxidised fats that build up during stress or poor diet.

Binders & Absorbers

Binders work by trapping toxins in the gut and carrying them safely out of the body. They are best taken away from food or medication and supported by hydration and fibre.

  • Activated Charcoal: Made from coconut shell carbon, it binds to chemicals, gases, and toxins in the digestive tract. Used for acute detox or bloating, it helps relieve discomfort and supports gut clarity.
  • Diatomaceous Earth: A fossilised algae powder rich in silica that scrubs and absorbs impurities. It helps cleanse the intestines, support healthy skin and hair, and eliminate internal parasites.
  • Bentonite Clay: A negatively charged volcanic ash clay that binds positively charged toxins, bacteria, and heavy metals. Also beneficial as a topical mask for drawing impurities from the skin.
  • Zeolite: A crystalline mineral with a unique honeycomb structure that captures heavy metals and radiation by-products. Gentle yet powerful, zeolite is ideal for environmental and chemical detox support.

Chelation & Cellular Detox

Once toxins are mobilised from cells, they must be bound and safely excreted. This process, known as chelation, uses natural agents that latch onto metals and escort them from the body.

  • Cilantro: Helps release stored heavy metals from the brain and tissues, particularly mercury and lead. Works best when paired with a binder such as chlorella, charcoal, or zeolite to prevent reabsorption.
  • Chlorella: A green microalgae rich in chlorophyll that binds to mercury, lead, and cadmium. It also provides essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to rebuild and restore after detoxing.
Tip: Always use binders alongside mobilisers like cilantro to prevent toxins from circulating back into the bloodstream.

Blood Cleansing Herbs

In The Lost Book of Herbal Remedies, traditional blood-purifying herbs are described as vital for flushing waste and supporting skin, liver, and lymphatic function. These herbs enhance elimination through the kidneys and bowels while nourishing new blood formation.

  • Red Clover: Rich in isoflavones, it promotes circulation and gentle detoxification through the lymph.
  • Burdock Root: A deep cleanser that supports liver function, skin clarity, and waste removal through the kidneys.
  • Dandelion Root: Stimulates bile flow and liver metabolism to process and eliminate toxins.
  • Yellow Dock: Supports iron absorption and bowel regularity while removing waste from the blood.
  • Chaparral: A strong antioxidant and liver purifier that helps neutralise pathogens and oxidative stress.
  • Manjistha: Traditional Ayurvedic herb that purifies blood, improves complexion, and clears heat and stagnation.
