💊 Forms: Lite / Core / Plus capsules & Powder – see product pages for capsule size, origin and suggested daily intake.
Traditional Background
Chaparral is a hardy desert shrub native to the arid regions of North America, especially the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It has a long history of use in Native American herbal traditions as a cleansing and purifying herb. Traditionally, chaparral was prepared as teas, washes, and poultices to support skin wellness, joint comfort, and general cleansing of the body.
Because of its strong, resinous character and powerful constituents, chaparral has been regarded as a deep “internal cleanser” and has often been included in historical formulas aimed at supporting the liver, lymphatic system, and overall vitality.
Active Constituents
Nordihydroguaiaretic Acid (NDGA): A potent antioxidant compound that has been the focus of much of the research on chaparral. It contributes to chaparral’s strong oxidative-stress-modulating properties, but is also associated with concerns about potential liver toxicity at higher intakes.
Resins & Lignans: Chaparral contains resinous compounds and lignans that contribute to its traditional use as a cleansing herb for the skin and joints.
Flavonoids & Phenolic Compounds: These plant compounds provide additional antioxidant and protective activity, supporting the body’s response to environmental stressors.
Traditional Uses
Detoxification & Cleansing: Traditionally used as a strong alterative herb to support the body’s natural cleansing and elimination processes. Chaparral has been used historically in formulas intended to support the liver, blood, and lymphatic system.
Skin Wellness: External applications of chaparral (ointments, washes, poultices) have been used to support skin comfort and clarity, especially for rough, irritated or problem skin.
Joint & Musculoskeletal Support: Herbalists have traditionally used chaparral to support comfortable joints, ease of movement and a healthy inflammatory response in muscles and connective tissues.
Respiratory & Immune Support: In some traditions, chaparral has been used to support clear breathing, a healthy respiratory system and general immune resilience, especially during seasonal challenges.

Important Notes
Chaparral is considered a very strong herb. There have been case reports of liver stress associated with chaparral supplements, especially at higher doses or in people with pre-existing liver conditions. For this reason, it is often used in small amounts and usually for limited periods under the guidance of an experienced practitioner.
It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for individuals with known liver disease, heavy medication use, or significant chronic illness unless supervised by a qualified healthcare provider.
Always ensure adequate hydration when using herbs traditionally regarded as cleansing or detoxifying.
