Description
If springtime in the air has you running for the tissues, you’re not alone. Each year, millions of people seek relief from seasonal allergy symptoms. Pollens, molds, grasses and budding tree growth are common culprits, contributing to the classic symptoms of hay fever: itchy, watery eyes; runny nose; sneezing; and sinus congestion with pressure and pain. With their gentle actions and minimal side effects, botanical remedies are a good option for allergy sufferers.
Nettle - Stinging nettle may sound painful, but it’s actually considered a wonderful health-supporting herb. Nettle has natural histamine-blocking properties which are especially beneficial for seasonal allergies. [9] Historically, stinging nettle has been used for sore joints and gout as well as eczema and hay fever. Current research, however, has yet to support this ancient use.
Elderberry - Elderberry is a European folk remedy typically used for supporting health during bouts of the cold and flu. However, there is evidence that the active ingredients in elderberry also support the sinuses by discouraging swelling of the mucous membranes. [1] This benefit makes elderberry an excellent tool for supporting health while combating seasonal allergy symptoms. It naturally protects defenses by keeping bacteria in check, and it has also been used to deter sinusitis and nasal congestion.
Chamomile – Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla): is rich in anti-histamine properties.
Fennel - Fennel is rich with the antioxidant flavonoid "Quercetin". Quercetin is a strong natural antihistamine shown to be very helpful for allergies and histamine-related inflammation.
Thyme - Thyme (Thymus vulgaris): is a natural antihistamine, as well as having antiseptic properties to help purge infections. The essential oil has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against a host of different bacteria and fungi.
